What Do You Get When You Cross Ballet with an Aquarium?
I just read an article (link posted below) about how the Aquarium of the Pacific has partnered with the Long Beach Ballet for a three day production at the aquarium, which they hope will inspire guests to “take action to conserve nature and its resources”. I would like to see this...We’ve always been on the look out for these types of “cross pollinations” as we believe that this trend is not likely to go away and will continue to build. Way back in 2005 we spoke at IAAPA about the “hybridizing” of museums and attractions, where the lines were starting to fade between a traditional mission-driven museum experience and a commercial attraction experience. We started to see theme parks embrace mission driven opportunities, such as D’Efftling and 4D PandaVision. We started to see museums add 4D theatres, science centers adding dark rides, and zoo’s adding ziplines and hotels.
This trend in creating a new type of visitor experience that blends different types of (typically) stand alone attractions isn’t going away and we are interested to see the Arts enter the world of aquariums, zoo’s and theme parks. We believe that the arts has a transformative effect on people so why not work together and create amazing experiences. Well done Aquarium of the Pacific!
