Interpretation Planning and Visioning
Winterville Mounds is a 42-acre archeological site near Greenville, Mississippi, featuring 12 prehistoric Native American mounds, two large plazas, and a museum. Owned by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, this important archeological site retained A Different View to evaluate their visitor experience to help inform any future development plans for the site. In addition, since this is in a very small market with a small staff, there were some operational constraints that the client needed help with.
A Different View started by evaluating the experience in light of the mission statement. We also evaluated the brand and therefore the branded experience, to identify gaps in maximising visitor engagement while on site. We also evaluated the “pre-experience” by reviewing marketing material, digital footprint and website presence. Recommendations were made that included marketing suggestions, experience improvements and operational suggestions. The client now has a road map to consider as they contemplate redeveloping this important site.
